From August 1 to September 15, 2010, the public was invited to participate in an experiment in “crowd-curation” with 183 works on paper from the Walker’s vast collection. Viewing images at a kiosk in a Walker gallery and at walkerart.org, individuals submitted nearly 250,000 votes on whether a particular artwork should “definitely” or “maybe not” be included in the exhibition 50/50: Audience and Experts Curate the Paper Collection, opening December 16, 2010.

This Collector Set presents those 183 works in a highest-to-lowest ranking. The “audience” component of 50/50 will consist of works from this set, starting with the highest ranked, that will fill half of the Walker’s Perlman Gallery; the other half will feature works curated by Walker chief curator Darsie Alexander to reflect key holdings in the Walker’s works-on-paper collection, as well as its overall sensibility. Given the various sizes of works-on-paper, the final list will not be known until installation is complete in December.
